Backup Power Options
Backup power systems can be configured as partial-home backup for selected critical circuits or whole-home backup for all circuits. Key considerations include battery capacity, inverter sizing, load shedding, circuit labeling, and compliance with NEC codes 702, 705, 230, and 225.
Code Reference (NEC)
- NEC 702 – Optional Standby Systems
- NEC 705 – Interaction with distributed generation
- NEC 230 / 225 – Service vs feeder distinctions
Partial-Home Backup
- Only selected circuits backed up
- Longer runtime for critical loads
- Common for retrofits or limited battery capacity
Whole-Home Backup
- All circuits backed up
- Requires sufficient battery and inverter capacity
- Load shedding handled dynamically by Kora
Installer Responsibility
- Verify inverter output limits to avoid oversizing critical circuits
- Clearly label backed-up circuits
- Confirm startup surge compatibility
- Test outage behavior during commissioning
